Frustrated is a great word to describe Little Louie. He's sick, and every time he calls out for his mom, because of his stuffed-up nose he summons slobbery dog Bob instead!
Before reading, remind students that illustrations are pictures that tell stories. Share the cover illustration and lead students to consider the story being told. Guide them to identify how each character—the lady, the boy, and the dog—depicted in the illustration is feeling. Draw students' attention to the objects each character is holding and ask them what the objects reveal about each character. Finally, have students speculate who these characters are and how they relate to each other. (Reading: Literature: Key Ideas and Details: RL.K.1, RL.1.1)
