Grand Masterpieces
Celebrate Grandparents Day with some grand artwork! On a white paper oval have each child draw a portrait of his grandparent(s). Then invite him to mount it on a larger black paper oval. Attach a loop of ribbon to make a hanger. Then display all the finished artwork with the title “Grand Masterpieces.”

Paper Tree Sculptures
With this clever idea, no cutting is needed to transform a paper bag into a three-dimensional tree! For easy management, work with small groups of students to complete the project. To make a tree, begin with a flat brown paper lunch bag. Make several tears from the top of the bag to the middle of the bag. Then open the bag and stand it on a flat surface. Next, hold the middle of the bag with two hands. Twist the bag a few times to form a trunk. Then flatten the bottom of the bag to form a base for the tree. To make branches, gently separate the torn strips and then twist each of them tightly. If desired, tear pieces of green tissue paper to make leaves and crumple pieces of red tissue paper to make apples. Then glue the leaves and apples to the branches.
