When I Was Little
Regular and irregular past tense verbs Use students’ photos to reflect on and write about the past. To start, have each student obtain a photo of himself from when he was younger. Direct the child to discuss with family members details related to the photo as well as his earlier habits. Copy the photo for the child and have him glue it to a sheet of paper. Then instruct him to write three or more sentences that tell about the photo and what he did when he was younger. Guide the student to underline each past tense verb. Provide time for students to share their sentences aloud; then bind the pages in a class book titled “When I Was Little.”
Tip: If a student can’t provide a photo, share a copy of a picture of yourself. Set aside time to tell the child about the photo and your childhood habits.
