A Is for Algebra
Algebraic expressions
To begin, have a student choose a letter. Then challenge her to write an algebraic equation using the letter. Next, have her write and illustrate an alliterative word problem based on the equation. Finally, have her solve her problem and write the answer on the back of her paper.

Thinking About Reading
Comprehension strategies
Help a student think about what he reads with this booklet. Have a child cut out a copy of the booklet, fold it along the inside lines, and stand it on her work space. Remind her to think about at least one question from each section as she reads.

Special Words
Parts of speech
Challenge students to show off their grammar knowledge with this low-prep idea. Program a copy of the reproducible with a seasonally related word and share it with students. A student writes a word in each section that matches the letter in the top of the column and the part of speech in the row.
