Index Card Storyboards
Sequencing
Sequencing is the focus of this reading comprehension activity. Write on the board in scrambled order several important events from a story students have read. Have each child copy the events on separate unlined index cards and add an illustration to each card. When he is finished, have him number the cards to show the order in which the story events occurred. Check the order of his cards. Then have the student create a storyboard by gluing his cards to a colorful sheet of construction paper!

Go Figure
Geometry
To help students' math vocabularies quickly take shape, write on separate paper strips geometry-related terms. Fold the strips and put them in a bag or container. Also, set out a math textbook or dictionary. Divide the class into two teams; then direct a player from Team 1 to choose a paper. After he does so, start a timer for one minute. Instruct the child to refer to the textbook's glossary or dictionary if needed to clarify the word's meaning. Then have the child draw a picture that will best lead his teammates to name the word on his paper. If his teammates can identify the term before time expires, the team earns a point. If they cannot, Team 2 gets a chance to guess for a point before taking its own turn. The team with more points at the end of play wins.

Spelling Activities
Spelling
To give students a variety of spelling practice options, make a class supply of the activity sheet. Give each child a copy of the sheet with her new spelling list. Have her write her words on the sheet and then meet with the child to determine a number of activities for her to complete. During the week, have the child sign her name on the line in each box as she finishes each assignment and then place the assignment in a folder or a folded 12" x 18" sheet of construction paper. Before she takes her spelling test, have her turn in her sheet and her folder of work.
