Three-Ring Review
Capitalization
To prepare this center for your language arts ringmasters, print the center mat and cards; then cut the cards apart. Place the mat in a plastic page protector and the cards in a resealable plastic bag. A child sorts the cards onto the mat. Then she labels a sheet of paper as shown and correctly writes each place, holiday, or product under its corresponding heading. As an alternative, use a document camera to project the center mat onto your whiteboard. Give each child a card and direct her to share the word aloud; then have her place it on the appropriate ring.

Math Mind Builders
Math skill review
Give each student a copy of the page to work on during free time. Or, to use it as morning work or a math warm-up activity, project a copy of the page and color the number of each task you want students to complete.

Reading Replay
Recount stories
Guide students to identify a story's key ideas and details with this handy reference. To begin, give each student a card stock copy of the "Reading Replay" strip. Instruct him to cut it out and make two slits where indicated. Next, make student copies of the programmed paper strips and give each child one strip. Direct him to draw or write details about the story to complete each section of the strip. Then have him cut out the strip and write the title on the back. The child pulls the strip through the slits and folds each end back. To recount a story, the child pulls the strip and refers to each section to jump-start the information he shares aloud. Later, when he's ready to discuss a new story, have him remove the paper strip and insert a new one.
To vary the activity, make copies of the blank form; then have students order the main events of the story in each section and label the writing lines with brief descriptions of the events.
