Using Digital Tools to Produce Writing

Did you know there are free websites that will help students plan their writing? To find these tools, search for “free mind mapping tools for teachers.” Then have students use the concept maps and picture tools to help guide their writing. By inserting clip art and words, or even drawing their own pictures, students can gather their thoughts during the prewriting stage. Some sites include a tool that allows students to then organize their ideas in an outline.

Math

Word Problems

Try this simple suggestion for a word problem challenge. Copy several problems from an old math text onto a sheet of paper, replacing every number with a blank line. Below each problem, add a box that contains the numbers and answer for the problem. Then challenge students to solve each problem using the numbers in its box. Be sure to warn students that there may be more than one way to solve a problem!
